Obituary from Neosho (Missouri) Times, 01/11/1923

Charles E. Stader, a citizen of the eastern part of the county for 45 years and one of the best known men of the county, died at his home three miles northeast of Newtonia, Saturday, January 6th, aged 78 years.  He had not been in good health for some time on account of increasing age and was seriously sick last fall but had recovered to some extent.

Mr. Stader was born in Kentucky Sept. 29, 1844, and moved with his parents when a small boy to Columbus, Indiana.  After growing to manhood he was engaged in railroading for several years and at the beginning of the Civil War he enlisted in the Union Army.  He served two or three years and was discharged on account of disability.  He was married at Seymour, Indiana in 1871, and came to Newton County in 1877, buying the Oliver farm on Shoal Creek where he lived for 45 years.  Mr. Stader is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sue Stader, and two sons and two daughters, namely James Stader of Washington D.C., Paul C. Stader of Neosho, Mrs. Kate Williams and Mrs. Georgia Crane who live near Newtonia.  He also leaves seven grandchildren.  Mr. Stader was the last one of his family, his only surviving sister having died a few months ago at the age of 83.

Mr. Stader owned one of the largest and best improved farms in the county, nearly all of it being Shoal creek bottom.  He was one of the most influential and enterprising farmers in his part of the county.  He had been a member of the Methodist church for 35 years and he was also a member of the Masonic Lodge at Stark City.
